Playwright Emily Kaye Lazzaro and director Jeff Mosser
Oh hello there friends! I'm Emily Kaye Lazzaro, playwright and actor. You might remember me from such plays as Priscilla Dreams the Answer, in which I portrayed an alien named Zip. That was when I first met the fine folks at Fresh Ink Theatre. Our relationship has grown since that time. We're about ready to meet each other's parents.
My play, Girls Sports, is going to be the third production of Fresh Ink Theatre's 2012-2013 season and I couldn't be more excited. The development process is in full swing. We had a reading earlier this month, we'll be doing a workshop in July, and then casting and rehearsals begin next spring. Girls Sports is a comedic drama (dramedy? comedrama?) about infidelity, bravery, family, and fantasy. It was really wonderful seeing the characters come alive at the reading and I'm very much looking forward to the workshop.

It's funny, I attended a few events at the TCG (Theatre Communications Group) conference that was held in Boston this year. Lots of theatre companies seem to be struggling to include the development of new work in their seasons. But, honestly, it doesn't have to be so hard! Fresh Ink is doing it right now, every day. And they are doing awesome work and really helping Boston lead the pack in new play development. Keep it up, guys! And maybe we can take this relationship to the next level!
